Lust for Lippies: The Pixi MatteLast Liquid Lip Collection

Yes, my Barbie dolls (and Ken dolls, obviously), welcome BACK to yet another one! I'm honestly so happy to be uploading in a more consistent manner again and today's post and feature products have my body shook to the core, as we're going to dip into to some serious lipstick porn. However, there'll be no need for parental advisory with this kind of porn, just a mug of tea/coffee and a major passion for liquid lipsticks - let's dive straight in!

To begin, to cut a long story short, I was kindly sent a truly stunning PR package containing the Pixi Beauty rose collection, which I've been playing/experimenting with ever since. Encased within the magical box, there were two rose-based treats to add to my skincare routine (look out for those in an upcoming post, I've got you covered) and 5 beautiful liquid lipsticks, all showcasing subtly different hues of pink. Of course, as you know, the minute I set eyes on new makeup, I tend to slap it on immediately in sheer excitement; I got to work straight away on testing out the different shades and formulas so I could provide you guys with the real scoop on the products. However, as you know, I did take my break, meaning that this post is rather late in comparison to those written by my fellow beauty bloggers and content creators, but it's always worth providing you guys with multiple opinions, which is why I'm still determined to put my review (from my personal perspective) out there today.

So, starting with colour range, evidently (to avoid this being the elephant in the room throughout the entire post) this collection does in fact require you to be a fan of pinky-nude based shades, given the fact that the principal idea for the 'Fall 2017' range is based on the recognition of the rose, not only as a gorgeous colour, but also as an essential ingredient (each and every lipstick is infused with Rosehip oil). Luckily for me, this colour scheme is something I'm naturally drawn to (girly girls LOVE pink), so I, personally, had no problem at all with the variety and adore each differing hue, as they're neither too close nor too far away from one another on the colour spectrum.

With regards to how inclusive these are (i.e how many different skintones can rock these and legitimately look good, per say), I'm also very impressed. The shades all appear to look very pleasant against a vast majority of base skintones and undertones; the lightest shade available doesn't make really dark-skinned beauties look anaemic (trust me, I've tried on lipsticks in the past that have made me look DREADFUL due to how light they were, and I'm not even that dark...) and the darkest shade available doesn't make really fair-skinned beauties look like they've gone for a 'Gothic Chic' look, which is the only real inclusivity test.

After establishing that Pixi Beauty have, so far, passed every test with flying colours, it's now time to talk formula, but absolutely not before we've done some proper swatches of these babies!

So, from top to bottom (and, for once, I'll refrain from providing you with a detailed description of each hue, as these shade names do all of the talking by themselves), we have:

  • Au Naturelle
  • Matte Beige
  • Pastel Petal
  • Really Rose
  • Evening Rose

Firstly, upon application, it's clear to see that these are so much more creamy than a majority of conventional liquid lipsticks out there that tend to be fairly loose and 'wet' in consistency. However, much like the Zoeva Pure Velours Lips, the moussy texture makes it a lot easier to apply the product without it going here, there and everywhere (we're not about those Krusty the Clown vibes on this blog) and gives it a non-streaky finish.

I also think that said "moussy texture" is partially responsible for how comfortable these actually feel, even after being worn all day long; they don't make the lips look crusty and dehydrated in any way, shape or form (as they don't dry down completely) and you genuinely don't know that the lipstick's there once it's on. There is a little transfer, but if you're not going to be eating anything deep-fried or snogging someone's face off, then this shouldn't pose any problems; even so, you can always reapply in order to ensure your perfect pout lasts a full day intact.

The custom Pixi 'Petal' applicator is also a real winner for me; I have relatively full lips and, thanks to the considerably larger and wider applicator that comes with the lippy, an entire coat can be applied a matter of seconds. More importantly though, the result remains accurate, as the petal form the applicator takes allows you to glide the product smoothly around each corner of the mouth - you really can't go wrong.

In conclusion, this liquid lipstick collection, as well as containing 5 beautiful variations of pink (that, before I forget to mention, really stand out due to the purposeful simplicity of the packaging on Pixi's part), has a truly high quality formula that deserves recognition from the whole beauty community. I have been able to stop wearing them since they arrived through my post box and I don't think that'll change anytime soon - I'm in love with these pinks.

Currently, you can purchase the Pixi Beauty MatteLast liquid lipsticks from Look Fantastic, Simply Be and Asos, so, what are you waiting for?
