Recent Oral Care Favourites

Happy Tuesday everybody, I hope you're having a wonderful week so far! Now, as you guys know, I've never been secretive about the fact that I care a lot about oral health and, as a result, I do receive a fair few questions, especially via Instagram direct (heyyy!), regarding which products I go for on that front. However, as it does chop and change quite a bit, I thought it appropriate to provide you with a little bit of a guide containing my current favourite oral care products to keep that mouth feeling fresh and fantastic

Just to give you a bit of background, I've been using all of these products since pretty much the beginning of this year (you know, as a part of that 'new year, new you' attitude we all adopt before going back to eating family-sized packets of crisps each) and have deemed them to be rather good at their jobs and, for me, that's saying something as I'm rather picky when it comes to oral care products. So, without further ado, let's drill down on what my recent picks are. (Bonus points if you detected to the dental pun I threw in there as a token gesture, you're welcome.)

Doll White Activated Coconut Charcoal Polish - £10.99
I was sent this (along with some whitening strips which were, in my opinion, less of a success which is why I've left them out) a while back by the lovely Elena but, at the time, I was still experimenting with my now trusty Janina Ultra White goodies (click here if you're interested in giving that post a little skim) and never got round to trying this bad boy until recently. The best thing about this teeth whitening polish is the fact that it's charcoal AND coconut - the taste is about a million times nicer than your bog standard charcoal. I mean, let's not pretend it tastes like rainbows and sprinkles but it is just so much more agreeable to work with - if you're looking to wake up to gradually whiter teeth everyday without having to grimace each time you brush them then this, my friend, is the product for you.

The Breath Co. Fresh Breath Oral Rinse (Icy Mint)* - £7.00
First of all, my deepest apologies for the darker photo in comparison to the others (this thing casts a WHOPPING shadow which, to be honest, isn't a bad thing because it shows just how generous the bottle you're getting is - worth your money!) but this has been a solid gem within my collection over the last little while. Now, I'm happy to declare that, naturally, I, Marina Rosie, do NOT have bad breath. I do, however, have this thing called 'paranoia' about having bad breath and, since breathing directly in the faces of others is a prominent part of college group work, I like to ensure that I smell more of mint than the mackerel I had for lunch - this is where the oral rinse steps up and comes to the rescue. When I use this in the morning, it leaves my breath smelling pleasantly fresh and that scent can linger for over 12 hours - I can go about my everyday business without a bad breath related concern. Therefore, if you genuinely do have bad breath or a related condition, this could potentially be the product that can help you improve that so I definitely recommend giving it a whirl!

Cocoganic Oil Pulling (2 week course in Cool Mint)* - £19.99
Now, I'd seen oil pulling products contanty advertised by celebrities, influencers and public figures, primarily on Instagram, for quite a while before I was kindly sent over this two week course which I've been loving using over the past little while (admittedly, I haven't stuck to doing two solid weeks as I do have strips and blue light kits that I use in between). Oil pulling, in my humble opinion, is the hardest type of whitening and takes the most patience and tolerance (I can't say everybody's willing to sit there awkwardly with oil in mouth for 20 minutes...) but, if you're willing to commit yourself to it, you could be looking at obtaining some serious results. I drink way too much tea for my own good and, sometimes, I see the effects of that habit in the form of stains on my lovely gnashers and oil pulling is a natural and reliable way to lift those stains for a much nicer smile overall. There's no doubt in my mind that the art of oil pulling is a triumph; if you're willing to wait then you'll be so happy with what these mere pouches can do for you.

Grether's Pastilles (Regular 110g in Blackcurrant)* - £7.49
Finishing on a high, last but not least, we have these pastilles which, although not 100% oral health related (although I count them as they are in fact entering my mouth for health reasons), have been rocking my world lately. Like most, my opinion on pastilles designed to soothe the throat/voice is that they taste disgustingly "medical", shall we say, so, upon tasting these, I was greeted with a wonderful surprise: they are delicious. As in delicious enough for one to decide to feign illness just in order to be able to wolf them down like sweets without people staring (although that's not recommended, obviously). Personally, I'm prone to the flu during the Winter months anyway and these really helped my croaky throat and prevented me from sounding like a Dalek for more than two days, which, to be completely honest, is all I could ever ask for. I'm also a singer (not Adele level, but...) and I've found that popping these in my handbag to have before and after practice has been another really good move for my voice although I'm slightly annoyed at myself for allowing them to be publicly sighted; I felt obliged to share which has meant that the level of pastilles has depleted much too quickly for my liking, especially considering that they really are the best on the market.

* The products marked with an asterisk have been gifted to me, free of charge, for review. However, all opinions on them are strictly honest.

Thank you very much for reading this post on my recent oral care favourites - for those of you that were curious, I really hope this has answered a few of your questions!

  4. I’ve tried activated charcoal, but felt meh about it. I love the idea of charcoal AND coconut! I might have to give a couple of these a go!

    1. Yes, I won't lie to you Angell, activated charcoal on its own can taste a bit grim which is, understandably, rather off-putting but adding the coconut makes it so much easier to commit to using - I recommend! x

  12. I'm curious to try oil pulling as an alternative to whitening strips. The fact that it's time consuming does put me off a bit, but it's encouraging to know that you got good results with this brand! x

    1. Oil pulling is a really good natural alternative and some whitening strips can even contain harmful chemicals so it's a great way of keeping those at arms length! Yes, it is time consuming but, if you're sitting watching TV, you won't even notice the 20 minutes going by! x

    1. I'm happy to give you that info Suzy - any bamboo made brush with charcoal bristles is a win for the environment and for the teeth! I don't floss however, but there are some amazing ones out there, I'm sure! The pastilles are available from a number of retailers so I reckon you could probably get hold of them in Canada, yes, why not?! Thanks for reading! x
