5 Tips for Healthy & Glowing Skin

Happy skincare Wednesday (if that's even a thing... new series?) my lovelies! Now, quick disclaimer: I, Marina Rosie, do not have perfect skin. Being in my late teens, my skin still causes me problems from time to time, I experience breakouts, the texture changes, the spots leave dark marks; all manner of things go wrong with my skin and that's okay. But is it a HELL of a lot better than it was 2 years ago? Absolutely. And is it healthy, glowing and snatched? A billion percent YES. As a result, today, I thought it'd be rather useful if I shared 5 tips to help you get that gorgeous skin, as well as some of my favourite products that can help you along the way. So, without further ado, let's get straight into it!

Sun protection
Right, first things first: have you got that SPF on, sis? Even on non-sunny days, it's vital that you protect your skin from sun damage because, as much as some of us love getting a good tan on, too much exposure can have some real consequences for the skin, including things such as age spots, dehydration and accentuation of dark marks (not the mention the obvious: getting burnt to a crisp). In order to prevent this, I totally recommend carrying around an appropriate hat with you in your handbag at all times, rocking a snazzy pair of sunglasses when necessary and, most importantly, permanently integrating suncare products into your daily morning skincare routine.

At the moment, I've been obsessed with the above products from a brand called Delph as, quite frankly, they do an outstanding job of protecting my delicate little self (joking) from sustaining any damage to my skin; out here in Western France, the sun BEATS down constantly. I use the Sun Lotion (SPF 30)* every single morning in conjunction with my moisturiser and it's the perfect texture (this is very important to me in a product - some sun creams are so runny they could pass for milk), has a lovely, non-invasive smell and doesn't leave any kind of sheen upon application. What more could I possibly ask for? Some after sun care maybe? Well, fear not - Delph have got you covered there too with their After Sun Lotion* which, with aloe vera and vitamin E, is the perfect way to hydrate and nourish the skin after an extended period out in the sun. Once on, the lotion has an amazing cooling sensation and really refreshes my somewhat 'hot' cheeks (you could cook eggs on them after a certain point) - I couldn't recommend it more for those of you jetting off on holiday or those of you living within a hotter climate. And, don't worry, you won't be paying over the odds in any way, shape or form with these; the sun lotion is a bargain at £4.00 and the after sun lotion even more so at £2.00 which is fabulous for a product of this quality.

Moisturisation
Whether or not you have dry skin, it's imperative that you stay moisturised in order to achieve that dewy, glowy effect; your face gets thirsty just like you do! Due to the fact that my skin is on the dry side in most areas, I require something fairly heavy to lock in the moisture: none other than Nivea's well-known Crème. Although I reckon it's supposed to be for the body, I've been using this for years now as it's one of the only creams that works for me (without it, I'd probably morph into an alligator) - it's thickness means that it provides huge amounts of nourishment to the skin and preserves said nourishment all day long. Of course, I'd recommend it highly to anybody but if you'd like to use something lighter then that's totally fine as well; moisturising is all about finding the texture and formula that works for you.

Pillow cases and overall hygiene
This one may seem slightly obvious but, believe it or not, personal hygiene has a rather large role to play in healthy skin maintenance as bacteria can spread like wildfire, sometimes just from a person's fingertip. Therefore, in order to prevent those unwanted whiteheads from making an appearance at the party uninvited, try to keep contact from your hands with your face at a minimum, wash your hands thoroughly after all contact with unclean substances and change your pillow cases as often as possible.

Personally, I'm very picky about not only the frequency at which I change mine (at least once a week) but also which ones I use as that, too, can make a huge difference to your skin. Lately, I've been sticking solely to my Calidad Home silk pillow cases* because they are just superior and, honestly, there's no other way to put it. Made from the purest of silks, these pillow cases allow for maximum moisture retention as silk absorbs less of your skin's natural oils than cotton, thus preventing the skin from feeling as if it has to overcompensate by producing its own set of oils, leading to those pimples we all HATE waking up to. As well as this, they are smoother, create less creases and lines in the face overnight (which, later on in life, become wrinkles) and can even have positive effects for the hair too, reducing split ends and frizz. So, if you're looking to treat yourself anytime soon then head on over to the Calidad Home website and pick at least one up - they're a must within anybody's beauty and/or bedtime routines.

Pampering
Life can get really busy at times which, evidently, makes it a lot more difficult to find time to relax and take care of yourself instead of other people/affairs. Therefore, deciding on a set 'pamper night' or two per week is a great way to manage your time and give yourself a little something something to look forward to at the end of a stressful week. And, of course, popping a mask on from time to time also does wonders for the skin, especially for those wanting to effectively deal with specific skin concerns.

Being a face mask fiend, I have a number of firm favourites all the way from deep sea mud to brightening lemon sheet, solely depending on what needs to be targeted in terms of imperfections within any given week. One of those favourites is the Purifying Enzyme Mask by the amazing Palmer's (you know, that OG Cocoa Butter brand), which I love for its profound pore penetration (there it is) and skin softening and smoothening. Originally, I did receive this product in PR around the Summer period of last year but, as you'll notice, there's no asterisk; since then, I've purchased two more and won't stop doing so until the moment they discontinue it, if EVER. So, if you're stuck for ideas regarding products for your pamper nights, I couldn't recommend this one more.

A good serum
Finally, it's definitely worth mentioning that a lot of people underestimate the importance of a really good serum as they deliver amazing ingredients at a higher concentration than the likes of cleansers which, again, helps to target specific skin concerns.

A recent favourite of mine is this Vitamin C serum* by the brand Proaura; it provides powerful antioxidant protection with Astaxanthin which is clinically proven to be 60 times more powerful than your bog standard vitamin C. The serum feels amazing when applied to dry skin after cleansing (or even under makeup), the smell is very pleasant and the effects are amazing; my skin tone is a lot more even and brighter overall so, naturally, I'm going to be rather disappointed when I run out of this 'magical juice' as, quite frankly, it's a winner.

* The products marked with an asterisk have been gifted to me, free of charge, for review. However, all opinions on them are strictly honest.

Thanks so much for reading and I really hope you guys enjoyed reading this tips post - it's rather different in terms of type of content on this blog but I'm, of course, happy to pump out more just like this if you guys are feeling it.

How do you feel about your current skin? Are there any tips here that you'd like to integrate into your routine?

Don't forget to leave me a response (or a comment of any other nature) down below and follow this blog on your way out for more juicy content every week!

Until next time,

  9. Great post Marina, thanks for sharing! Wearing SPF daily is such a good tip, and one a lot of us don’t do. I’ve been using a BB cream with a SPF lately but I might invest in something heavier. :-) xx
